SEUNG HA LEE
ARTIST NOTE
Lee Seung-ha is a pioneering ceramic sculptor in South Korea, known for dedicating his life to Dojo (陶彫) art, a rare and challenging field. Initially trained in Western painting, his passion for ceramic sculpture began 17 years ago, driven by a transformative encounter with a porcelain Guanyin statue. Entirely self-taught, Lee mastered every aspect of the craft, from clay work to kiln construction, persevering through countless failures to create deeply meaningful works. His art reflects themes of human existence, inspired by religious and philosophical contemplation, and centers on the human form for its primal and universal expressiveness. Believing that art should be accessible, he strives to create pieces that bring comfort and connection, embodying his philosophy that artists should speak through their work rather than words. Now, after four decades of tireless effort, his art is ready to be shared as a testament to his life’s journey.
